Managing Clinical Trials Data
Managing data in every sphere is highly required as it will decide how the entire management can be run in a very methodical and processed way. Unlike any other field, data management in clinical trial is also necessary.
Collecting the Data
Acquiring or collecting of data involves many methods, first and the foremost being through the records available. These records include medical records in paper or electronic format. Electronic formats include voice response systems and electronic data capture systems tailor made for clinical trial data capture. These instruments only ensure the quality of the data acquired. The better is the equipment or the format, the better is the acquisition.
Data Management System
Once the data is acquired, management comes into picture. The collected data is then put on the case report forms and then stored in the clinical data management system. Each case report form is uniquely named to avoid any mess-up. First the data is checked for any typographical errors and then for any logical errors. If any logical error is detected the investigator is required to clarify on some occasions. Data coding is also done by the management system. Coding is done mainly in introducing the medical terms into the acquired data. In the end the data is analyzed by the regulatory authorities to approve and disprove.
Software Used
Clinical Trial Management System is the software system required for clinical data management. Clinical trial management system is mainly used in pharmaceutical industry to manage huge quantities of data which is an outcome of a clinical trial. Its main usage is in managing and maintaining the plan, preparation to execute the plan and how well a plan when executed would perform of clinical trials. Basically it provides a database for all the data involved in any clinical trial, so that the data could be kept in more organised manner and can be retrieved quickly as and when required.
