LASER TREATMENT FOR EYES

In early days, laser treatment for eyes was beyond imagination. But, now it has become a reality and is available to nearly everybody. Laser eye treatment has grown as the easiest and simplest solution to regain better eyesight.

 

Eye Laser Treatment is a surgical procedure that is used to correct myopia (near sighted vision), astigmatism and hypermetropia(farsighted vision). This takes only few minutes, depending upon the present state of health of the eye(s).

 

In this technique, an intense, high quality and high precision ray of light through a microscope is used. It is called the Excimer, that is exposed to the eyes hoping to correct the eye sight. A knife or blade is used to cut a flap in the cornea. Then the middle part of the cornea is exposed to the laser, so as to change the overall shape. The flap then is replaced back to finish the laser eye surgery procedure.

 

Usually, there is little if any discomfort during surgery because the cornea and eye are anesthetized by drops. Some patients may experience a "scratchy feeling." After the anesthetic wears off, the amount of discomfort varies with each individual, but any irritation is minor and usually disappears within a few hours. The patient may be sensitive to light for a few days.

 

There are basically two different types of laser eye surgeries, PRK laser eye surgery and LASIK laser eye surgery. Under these two basic categories, there are several kinds of modifications available within each type.
