USING LASER THERAPY TO REMOVE TATTOO

At early times, the tattoos were removed by a method known as dermabrasion. In this technique, the skin is sanded so as to remove both the surface layer and the middle layer of skin, the doctor would then remove the tattoo with a scalpel and stitches the wound closed. This usually resulted in excessive scarring to the skin.

But nowadays, there are various techniques with the help of which the tattoos can be removed completely without leaving scars or unpigmented areas of skin behind. One of the best advanced technique is Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment. In this procedure, the laser’s high energy light disintegrates the tattoo ink into tiny particles, which are then gradually absorbed by the skin. This may cause slight discomfort, but if a local anesthetic is used, then the pain would not be felt.

Depending upon the various characteristics of a tattoo, the number of removal sessions are determined. The characteristics include:

  • Size
  • Color
  • Type of ink used
  • Duration of the tattoo

Usually, laser tattoo removal takes between six and twelve treatments and can be spread over several months or a few years.

Laser tattoo removal treatment, may impart a few minor side effects such as red and tender skin, but this tends to diminish within three to seven days.

After every treatment session, it is suggested to keep the area as clean as possible by washing it with hydrogen peroxide and by applying an antibiotic such as bacitracin or polysporin. It is essential to keep the area covered with a clean, sterile bandage, as it becomes very tender after the session.
